Well, despite the excessive heat, a fantastic number of participants again took part in the 5th Annual Junee Poker Run. A total of 223 riders registered with a further 44 registering to take the bus. The run started off from Junee as usual despite a late start, many entrants arriving just prior to the scheduled starting time. The ride proceeded to Tumbalong, our first port of call and despite roadwork at the Wantabadgery turn off, everbody arrived without incident. The second stop was Adelong, where Junee CanAssist members provided the lunch. There was plenty of food for everyone and everyone was fed in good time. Well done team. Following lunch, riders then proceeded to Tumut where the temperature had climbed to 45 degrees. After some liquid refreshment and a cool down, we then proceeded to Gundagai where the publican had mister fans going. These proved a very popular item with all riders enjoying the relief. The final leg back to Junee proved the most telling with most riders and the non-riders bus stopping off for a cool down by the Murrumbidgeee River, due to the temperature reaching 47 degrees and with a strong wind blowing. By the time riders returned to Junee, there were a number of people suffering heat stress.

The evenings entertainment was once again a feature and a huge crowd attended to listen to the Blues artists despite the temperature remaining in the mid 30s late into the night.

Again it was a most successful event despite mother nature and Junee CanAssist will benefit from the proceeds, enabling them to keep supporting cancer patients in the Junee community. Thanks to all who attended and supported this event once again. Keep safe and we hope to see you back again next year.

Well, it's over for another year. What a fantastic roll up and brilliant day. There were 309 registered riders and a bus load of non-riders start from Junee.

The ride proceeded to Colingullie for the first stop and the first card. After a cold one or two, riders then left for Narrandera, where lunch was held at the Charles Sturt Hotel. Junee CanAssist was then presented with a $500 donation from the hotel's social club. This was a magnificent and unexpected gesture and a big thank you to all. Lunch was ready for the hungry hoard on their arrival and everyone was fed in quick time. The local constabulary turned up and instead of hassling anyone, they proved most obliging by closing off the side street completely, due to the number of riders and bikes. Most appreciated boys. Riders then departed for Ganmain, the next stop on the course. The highway patrol was out and about but again no-one was hassled. Next stop was Liddo's pub at Marrar then on to Junee to the Locomotive Hotel for the blues night.

The huge crowd was entertained until the wee small hours by the line up of artists and a comedian who turned up unexpectedly. The crowd was their usual hungry selves and kept the Junee CanAssist members and Fire Brigade boys busy cooking until around 10 pm. The crowd almost ate them out of the food for the recovery breakfast. Well CanAssist members rolled up at 6:30 on Sunday morning and cooked breakfast for those who slept over at the venue.

The winner of the trailer and whitegoods package was drawn with the lucky winner being Paul Shea of Harden. Congratulations, and thanks to all who bought tickets.

A huge thank you to all who attended for the excellent conduct throughout the day and night. Once again there were no incidents and everyone was out to have a great night. We hope to have the website updated with photos shortly and look forward to seeing you all again next time.

Ride safely until then.
